A little about Megan Johnson MA/EdS, LCMHC, SFN


Megan graduated with an undergraduate degree in Psychology from James Madison University in the small town of Harrisonburg, Virginia. She spent some time in the area completing internships and working her first job at a few Mental Health State Hospitals helping kids, teens and adults. She went on to receive her Master’s degree from Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC. Since then, she's worked in a variety of settings to include group homes for children, in office therapy and intensive in-home counseling services for children and their families.

As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, her goal as a clinician is to help teens, adults and families build upon their own personal and unique strengths in order to facilitate progression and handle complex transitions. Therapy is a unique process in which clients gain greater insight about themselves, their behaviors and their relationships through the guidance and patience of a dynamic therapist. Megan is dedicated to guiding clients to seek and find their greatest potential through a passionate and empowering approach. She is client focused and uses a strengths based, mindfulness approach to counseling.

She incorporates Energy Psychology into her practice in order to stretch beyond the limitations of traditional talk therapy. Megan is a Level II Comprehensive Energy Psychology trained counselor. This allows her to utilize many more avenues and techniques in order to heal the whole body. What is ENERGY PSYCHOLOGY you may ask? Great question!  Energy practices have been used for many years going back to the acupuncturists of Chinese medicine. Energy is the blueprint, the infrastructure, the invisible foundation for the health of your body. Your body is composed of numerous energy pathways that interact with your cells, organs, moods, emotions and thoughts. When you can shift the energies of your body it can have a profound effect on your health, both emotionally and physically. We work to move your energy using the energy meridians, the biofield and the chakras (without the use of acupuncturist needles). It can have life altering effects and often in a very short time. Struggling to let go of someone that angered you many years ago? Finding it difficult to find joy in your life, even if there isn't anything significant holding you back? Would you like to change unwanted bad habits? Energy Psychology can be the instrument you need to push past what traditional talk therapy can't do on it's own. It's a way of releasing stuck negative energies that get unbalanced and take hold in the body.  Often physical pains in the body are released at the same time.  

As a Fitness Nutrition Specialist, Megan is focused on the client and takes a solution-focused course of action in order to create goals and guide you on how to achieve them. She discusses your current eating habits, healthy eating options and covers healthy lifestyle versus diet culture. She also covers gut health and the astounding effect (research has shown) it has on mental health as well as physical health. She makes suggestions on the effectiveness of having solid support systems in place and lastly, provides education on how food works in the body and the after effects of what is eaten.  She then monitors the effects of the plan and makes adjustments as needed.
